UAV’s: Serbian UAV Solution “Sparrow”

In a move to genuinely plant Serbia’s defence industry among the world of UAV producers and despite investing in its Israeli made “Orbiter” UAV’s in 2008, Politika Online reports that the Serbian Ministry of Defence will further ‘promote’ its UAV manufacturing initiative with its newest Tier 1 mini-UAV dubbed the”Vrabac” (Serbian: Sparrow). 

In the final stages of development at the Serbian Military Technical Institute (VTI) and AP Moma Stanojlovic – Aircraft Overhaul Facility the Serbian ‘Sparrow’, as reported, aims to fill a capability gap within the Serbian armed forces and interior ministry while also providing a UAV solution to foreign militaries looking for quality UAV but at a lower price. 

According to the paper, previous attempts at producing a UAV were made by UTVA, producer of the new Iraqi Lasta-95 trainer, but it was only after aquiring the Israeli ‘Orbiters’ were Serbian engineers in the position to develop a domestic solution.
