Serbia Scraps Compulsory Military Service as of Jan 1, 2011

Tanjug reports today that the Serbian government has decided to abolish compulsory military service in the country starting Jan. 1, 2011.Only those who wish to receive basic military training will be called up from that day on. The rule applies to those who have chosen the so-called civilian service instead of training under arms.  The decision will now be forwarded to the Serbian parliament for adoption.
