The Serbian military Deputy Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Mladen Cirkovic together with the Head of the Serbian Center for Peacekeeping Operations, Lieutenant Jelesijem Radivojevic escorted seven Serbian soldiers from Batajnica Airbase who were on their way to the United Nations mission in Cyprus (UNFICYP) via a Serbian Airforce Antonov-26 transport.

General Ćirković wished the troops a safe trip and stressed the importance of peacekeeping missions to the Serbian defense system, military and state.

Serbia’s participation in UNFICYP begins with this seven member team. Some of the Serbian peacekeepers will perform duties in the center of a multinational mission, while the others will patrol along the separation zones.

The United Nations peacekeeping mission in Cyprus (UNFICYP) was established by Security Council Resolution No. 186 4th on  March 1964.
